On 24 July 2024, FORSEA’s Burmese co-founder and a student of genocides, Maung Zarni, addressed the Conference on the Sanctity and Value of Human Life co-hosted by the International Islamic University of Malaysia the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization and Center for Human Rights and Advocacy (CENTHRA), a Malaysian rights NGO.

Dr Maung Zarni joined some of the leading advocates against Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinian people in Gaza at the one-day conference designed to spotlight the intrinsic value of human life.

Among the international speakers who joined the distinguished scholars, public intellectuals and activists from Malaysia are the Northern Irish Nobel Peace laurate Mairead Maguire, Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, Rabbi Yisroel Davod Weiss of NETUREI KARTA (New York), Ms Rula Shahid of the West Bank-based Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy.

Israel’s Gaza genocide, now in its 10th month, has spotlighted the sordid impotence of the UN’s principal judicial organ of the International Court of Justice, the select application of the binding interstate treaty called the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (or the Genocide Convention) and the un-enforceable Eurocentric narrative of Human Rights.

Frustrated and pained by Zionist Israel’s genocidal savagery in Gaza, which in turn is aided and abetted by the US, Tel Aviv’s Western financers and arm-supplier, a group of Malaysian activists and scholars led by Romil Shamsudin of CENTHRA had organized and hosted an international conference designed to go beyond the legal narrative in dealing with egregious human rights crimes, be they in Gaza or Myanmar or Sudan.

The main theme of the conference was the equal and intrinsic worth of human persons, emphatically all humans.
