Ever since its first happening on February 1, 2021, the military coup in Myanmar is still ongoing. The human rights emergency has reached its most dangerous phase.

As of March 11, a total of (2045) people have been arrested, charged or sentenced in relation to the attempted military coup on February 1. Of them, (3) were convicted; (2) to two years imprisonment, (1) to three months. (73) have been charged with a warrant and are evading arrest, (319) were released. A total of (1726) are still under detention or have outstanding charges/evading arrest, including the (3) sentenced, in which students and youths were arrested around 200+. The death of (70+) is confirmed, and there are deaths unrecorded because some passed away in Junta hands.

The Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) was made as an effort to take over the civic space of the people of Myanmar and to bring back the power to the democratic leader. Their struggle for freedom now faces critical conditions with more repression of action, curfews, and internet shutdowns. Military junta and police have been responsible for those suppressions and even massacres. The coup now is not only about politics and power, but also an act of cruelty, brutality, and blatant form of human rights violations.

We, Milk Tea Alliance Indonesia, encourage ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Secretary General, Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, United Nations Security Council, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to immediately:

3. Provide solid protection to civilians, by calling on all parties to stop military action and acts of violence against citizens. Protection includes psychological recovery, especially for ethnic minorities, youth groups, journalists, women and children. Protect them so they can express themselves freely, communicate and save themselves from killings and head shootings.

We as global citizens, with the set bunch of rights and global responsibilities that come within, condemn all the actions of the military junta, which has now become a group of terrorists. Immediate response is needed because the world is watching.

KAUM MUDA MENGUTUK JUNTA TERORIS!

Kami, Milk Tea Alliance Indonesia, mendorong Negara Anggota ASEAN, Sekretaris Jenderal ASEAN, Menteri Luar Negeri Indonesia, Dewan Keamanan PBB, Komisioner Tinggi HAM PBB, untuk segera:

    1. Event flyer for a demonstration, prayers, solidarity messages, lighting candles, and hitting all kinds of pans (utensils) in front of the ASEAN Secretariat on March 12, 2021. Organized by Milk Tea Indonesia.
