Mr. Damrong Kraikruan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs (retired), was responsible for bilateral relations, joined Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985. He began his early years in the Southeast Asia Division of the Department of Political Affairs. He had served in the Department of Political Affairs and later in the Department of East Asian Affairs as Desk officer for Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar respectively. He was made Director of East Asia Division I in 2005 in charge of maritime Southeast Asia and Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs in 2012. His overseas tours of duty included assignments in Manila, the Philippines; Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany; as Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington DC, and as Consul-General in Los Angeles, CA, the United States. Prior to taking up his duty as Deputy Permanent Secretary, he served as Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia from February 2015 to February 2018. Mr. Damrong Kraikruan was born on 31 March 1960 in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History (First Class Honours) from Thammasat University, and obtained his Graduate Certificate in Diplomacy from Oxford University, United Kingdom.
