Two years ago, Petro Tsymbal, an award-winning Ukrainian filmmaker, travelled with a group of international & Myanmar activists to Auschwitz to help create a genocide education film, Auschwitz: Lessons Never Learned. This year the Russian invasion of his country has displaced his children and wife as the latter joined millions of Ukrainians who sought refuge across Europe. Petro has since joined the civil resistance as a filmmaker, using his talents to document Putin’s crime against peace.
Two weeks ago, Petro called from Lviv his Burmese friend and FORSEA co-founder Maung Zarni and said, “the Russian troops are using local Ukrainians as human shields. So, our resistance cannot attack them.”
